Teacher Spotlight - Brinda Pumphrey
Hello RMAE Community, my name is Brinda Lane-Pumphrey. This is my 12th year teaching art at RMAE. I love inspiring students to be artists and giving them a space where they can feel safe and have fun expressing themselves through art. I encourage them to be creative and unique in their art. Most of the projects I assign are open ended visual problems. This allows them to put their own spin on their work. I also teach students about art history. Sometimes they have really strong opinions about the art we look at. I love that! I want my students to be excited about making and talking about art. I love being surrounded by the creative energy of my students; sometimes it feels like creative chaos in my room!

When I am not at school I enjoy making my own art (mostly painting), camping, hiking, skiing, going to concerts, and gardening. I am a member of 40 West Arts, Foothills Art Center, and The Art Students League of Denver. I have shown my paintings in exhibits at all of the above as well as other galleries in the Denver area and the Summer Art Market. 

For years my daughters and I have challenged ourselves to make crazy complicated gingerbread houses including the Death Star, the Burrow, Hagrid's hut, the Jedi Temple… (yes there is a nerdy trend there). The “house” in the photo was made out of graham crackers instead of gingerbread and was in a Casa Bonita exhibit at NEXT Gallery. I am currently working on a large painting for next year's Casa Bonita exhibit because it is such a fun show to be in and attend.

Family Summary of the January Board Meeting
The board reviewed the school's sound financial status, updates to Jeffco's enrollment policy changes, and the impact of a new medication bill.  In addition, middle-of-the-year testing data was reviewed which shows the school's strong academic test scores continue to excel. 
 
The next regular board meeting is on February 9th, 2023, at 6:30 PM, in The Den. Come join us and learn about all that is happening at RMAE.

RMAE Yoga Club with Julie Noyle MS, RD, RYT
Wednesdays 3:15-4:15pm
Six sessions starting February 8 and ending March 15 $60 registration for all six sessions

This class is intended for children ages kinder and up. This hour-long class is designed to teach children the foundations of yoga while gaining important mental and physical health benefits. Class will include guided breathing, individual practice, as well as partner poses. Come join the fun while learning healthy habits. See Flyer for sign up details. 
Drawing Club
Ms Riscoe is starting a Free drawing club for grades 3-5 starting on Thursday 1/26.

We can teach you how to draw stuff or we can do group challenges and independent challenges ( only 3 markers, draw from a hat ect)

You can bring your own materials or we can supply them (all materials borrowed must be returned).
