News from the Principal

Hello RMAE families,

As we share what makes RMAE special with prospective families there is one theme that continues to lead the conversation – our community.  This encompasses the learning, parent, and staff communities that make our school the unique place it is.  The biggest marketing tool for charter schools is word of mouth and this is no different for us.  The prospective families we have spoken to in the past two weeks learned of us through a current or alumni family.  If everyone would spread the word to just one other prospective family, we would be able to positively enrich the lives of many more students.  Envision the pyramid effect and our product is an innovative educational experience within an amazing community.

We need you!  As you talk with families who are new to the area, not as pleased as they could be with their current school, or who just don’t know about us, please share about our powerful RMAE community.  It is through this word of mouth that will enable more students and families to become a part of RMAE and reap all its benefits.  Research indicates 92% of people believe and follow brand recommendations from friends.  Never underestimate the power of community when it comes to spreading the word about RMAE!

Your Proud Principal,
Dr. Ann Hudson

WE HAZ JAZZ
The RMAE Jr. Musical "We Haz Jazz!”, a mini-musical about the history of jazz, will run on Friday, November 16, 6:30 p.m. at Center Stage Theater.
This swingin’ musical by John Jacobson & Kirby Shaw traces the history of America’s music, from the cotton fields to the Cotton Club.
The story follows Riff, who is a jazz lover (not just a jazz liker) as she attempts to introduce her peers to jazz music. A host of jazz greats - Charlie Parker, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Ma Rainey, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Bessie Smith, Joe Oliver, Ella Fitzgerald, Mary Lou Williams, and Thelonius Monk - come to life to help Riff introduce jazz to her peers.
Come watch RMAE’s 4th and 5th graders as they be-bop and swing their way through jazz history in “We Haz Jazz!”
We Haz Jazz!  Presented by RMYMusical's 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders
One show only - Tickets $12

Teacher Spotlight
– Hi everyone!  My name is Melanie Kilroy.  I am proud to be RMAE’s School Psychologist.  This is my 11th year providing support for our amazing school.  Over the years I have taught math in middle school.  This year I have the pleasure to team with our fabulous Mrs. Deeter and teach 5th grade math.    As you can see from my picture, I am passionate about horses.  My two youngest children, Kirby 14 and Carlie 12 are avid horseback riders in the Westernaires.  I have been on our Evergreen Rodeo Drill team for four years.  We perform across the state in many rodeos but our team’s favorite is alway Father’s Day weekend in Evergreen.   When I am not on a horse I enjoy volleyball and spending time with my oldest son Kramer and his Wife, Cassie, or watching my daughter, Kenzie, perform around town in the latest theater production.

Elective of the week - 8th Grade Girls’ Grillin’ - Well, that is not exactly how it was originally planned.  However, none of the 8th Grade boys signed up.  There were 18 girls in this elective first quarter, and the number has now increased to 23 for the second quarter.  The girls have dined on everything from just plain old hot dogs, to brats, to assorted barbequed chicken appendages, to some amazing barbequed ribs, to (most recently) chili dogs!  They typically have a variety of soft-drink beverages, chips, coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans, and desserts ranging from cupcakes to homemade cookies to ice cream sandwiches or even root beer floats.  We even celebrated a classmate’s birthday with a candle in a cupcake!  The meals are planned a week ahead and the girls are responsible for selecting and bringing the meat, chips, drinks, dessert, utensils, plates, condiments, etc.  To date, they have not been willing to explore vegetables!  They are remarkably good at following through with bringing their respective items for the weekly event.  Apparently the grill master (Mr. Bryant) is doing a tolerable job, as enrollment has increased 28% from first to second quarter.  Oh yes, and now the 8th Grade boys also have a Guys’ Grillin’ Elective for the second quarter.

WEEKLY HEALTH TIP
- By Mrs. Best/P.E. Teacher - Health Tip #9 - TRY A NEW SPORT!  There are many opportunities within our Evergreen community to participate in a healthy active lifestyle. Here is information about an Ultimate Frisbee Clinic that is being offered to Middle Schoolers. Even if you don’t have middle school children, you could go watch this extremely interesting sport. Showing our children a variety of ways in which they can be active inspires them to try new sports. Playing and participating in different physical activities cultivates a passion to remain physically active throughout life!
