Hi Everyone, my name is Richele Newvahner and this is my first year as the School Counselor at Rocky Mountain Academy of Evergreen. I love being at RMAE and building relationships with the students and families here. One of my favorite parts of my job is helping students find their own strengths and supporting them both inside and outside the classroom so they can reach their full potential! Prior to school counseling, I worked as a licensed professional counselor in a variety of settings, but working with youth and families has always been my passion.

I live in Evergreen with my family and prior to Evergreen I have lived in Denver, Arizona and Ohio. Currently I have a son and daughter who attend school at RMAE and they are in the 1 st and 3 rd grades. Outside of school I love being outside skiing, hiking, SUP’ing on the lake and camping as well as gardening, taking care of my back yard chickens and traveling to new places!

I know that school can be a stressful place for some students in addition to many other stressors in their lives and it’s important to remember that we aren’t alone!

Here are some local mental health resources:

Resilience 1220: up to 10 free individual counseling sessions for youth in the mountain area
between ages 12-20 as well as free groups

Imattercolorado.org: 3-6 free counseling sessions for any youth in Colorado

Colorado Crisis Services: 1-844-493-8255 or text “TALK” to 38255
National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline:  Call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org

We also have many wonderful therapists in the Evergreen area!

Thank you to everyone who attended the Guardian Gala! What a great event hosted by our student council.
Kindergarten is traveling to each continent in their final core knowledge unit! We spent this week in Africa learning about the Maasai Mara and the all the amazing animals that can be found there. To reinforce our lessons, we went on an African safari to look for and identify different animals!
James Reed from the 1st grade made a cute Gnome house at recess.
In celebration of Earth Day, the 6th grade and 1st grade buddy elective did a big campus cleanup!
Second Grade Patriotic Program
2nd grade learns all about American History starting with the founding fathers writing the U.S. Constitution. They also cover The War of 1812, Westward Expansion, The Civil War, Immigration and Citizenship, and Civil Rights Leaders.
the second grade book club read Winn-Dixie and then created their own "mistake tree" as they do in the book.
We had a visiting artist educator in the 5th grade from Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. He took the students on a virtual field trip of several art exhibits that are currently on view at the museum. Afterwards he led them in creating artworks in the style of Jody Guralnick using tempera paint, sea sponges, and stencils.

April: Forgiveness

Forgiveness is having enough heart to let go of hurt- freeing yourself from anger and the other from guilt.
