A Message from the Principal

Dear RMAE families,

As our year draws to a close, we have much to celebrate.  On Friday we held a Drive-In Continuum Celebration for our 8th graders.  Even with COVID restrictions and rain, the hardest obstacle was not being able to give our students a congratulatory hug.  We did have loud and continuous car honking recognizing our great kids!

Today marks the beginning of book return and personal items pickup.  If you are unable to come during your student’s indicated grade, please email Dyann at [email protected] with the makeup day and time.

Our students and families have done a remarkable job these past 2 months.  Please understand that next school year brings many more questions than currently available answers.  There are three scenarios – full remote, full on campus, and a hybrid.  The least desirable option will be the full remote.  The full on campus and hybrid options will be determined by CDPH and JCPH requirements then what is best for the RMAE program and our community.  As a result, this may or may not be the same as the Jeffco plan.  As variables become more defined so will our plan.  Please be on the lookout this summer for RMAE communications.

I continue to feel honored and blessed I get to be a part of this amazing community.  Your continuous support and contributions in ways small, large, and unimaginable – both at home and at school – is what makes RMAE special.

I wish you all a very happy, safe, and enjoyable summer.  I look forward to seeing you all in August!

Dr. Ann Hudson

Health Update

Coronavirus - Please refer to the district’s coronavirus information page  as new information becomes available from public health resources, including the CDC.   RMAE will continue to follow the district's direction as they have been coordinating with local public health agencies as we monitor the global outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), keeping in close contact with Jeffco Public Health Department (JCPH) and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) on this subject.

Board Summary

Family Summary of May 14, 2020 Board Meeting

May 2020 featured another virtual meeting for the RMAE Board of Directors.  We kicked off with public comment, where Ms. Narans, Ms. Grubb, and Ms. Weiker advocated strongly for the adoption of a new reading curriculum known as Great Minds: Wit and Wisdom.  The teachers summarized their extensive work in reviewing the current literacy curriculum and additional candidates.  Later in the meeting, the Board voted to approve to adopt the curriculum for grades 1-6.

For now, RMAE’s 2020-2021 budget remains on track, as our Finance Committee has put us in a good position to absorb expected cuts without impact to your students’ programs nor teachers’ salaries.  However, we won’t have details to share until the State budget is passed at the end of this month, so please look for more information soon.  For those following the news, we are monitoring the CARES Act and various COVID-19 expense reimbursement programs closely, and expect to receive some very limited funds.

The Principal’s Report contained many positive updates this month, an incredible achievement in the current environment.  For example, details on the proposed reading curriculum were provided, staffing updates are proceeding as planned, enrollment continues to climb, and we even won a grant to enhance our gardening program!  In addition, the Principal and Board would like you to know that the press release regarding the Jeffco Schools plan for fall was neither detailed in nature nor known in advance to our administrators.  RMAE will follow the CDC and public health portions of the plan, but will otherwise be guided by what is best for our unique community.  In the meantime, we assure you a knowledgeable team will turn their attention to detailed planning once more data is available.  As you can tell from the various celebrations this week, the current focus is on ending school in a positive way that respects our long-time traditions.

The team discussed the results of the elections for next year’s Board of Directors.  Thank you and congratulations to Kjersten Ostrom-Condojani and Sarah Sailor for volunteering to serve!  Both new members attended this month’s meeting but will be sworn in next month.  At that time, the Board will nominate an additional parent representative for a 3-year term opening and one for a 1-year opening.  Please submit a letter of intent and brief biography to [email protected] if you are interested in one of these positions.

As their Board terms come to an end, we hope the community will join us in thanking Ginger Arnold, Brian Duncan, Mike Geiger, and Kristin Kipp for their service to our school.

Virtual Board meetings will continue as scheduled over the summer, with potential additional special sessions as budgeting needs may dictate.  We hope to “see” some of you there, and wish you a peaceful and enjoyable summer!
