Happy Thanksgiving!
A 'Taste of RMAE' - We will be hosting a 'Taste of RMAE' on Wednesday, Nov 29th for prospective families. During the school day we are inviting prospective students to experience being an RMAE student for a half day or less.
Your children are encouraged to invite their friends, who might be interested in attending RMAE, to join them in their classrooms. Space is limited and prospective students must be registered prior to arriving on the 29th. RMAE students who bring a registered non-RMAE friend to the 'Taste' will be rewarded by wearing free dress on that day.
Prospective parents will be offered on opportunity to observe classrooms, meet with Dr. Hudson and tour the campus. Parents can RSVP for the school day sessions or drop-in for the informational sessions offered after school from 3PM-5PM.
We need your help to get the word out about this event to your friends, your children's friends and neighbors. The easiest way for people to register is on our website where they will find a 'Taste of RMAE' quick link on our home page.
Annual Giving Campaign Update - Thank you to all who have supported RMAE students through a pledge to the Annual Giving Campaign! The final numbers will be tallied up after we return from Thanksgiving Break. So, there is still time for you to send in your pledge.
We Haz Jazz - Congratulations to the cast, crew and especially to the Director, Gretchen Moritz! Last night We Haz Jaz performed at Center Stage. The show was absolutely phenomenal! AND, 30 of the 32 cast members were our very own third through fifth graders! Gretchen did an amazing job of working with these students to bring out their very best!
Teacher Spotlight - Hello all! I’m Betsy Connor, and I’m the 7th and 8th grade English teacher. I graduated from University of Northern Colorado with a degree in Secondary English Education and a minor in history. When I drove up to RMAE for my interview last spring, I found myself feeling like I was coming home. After the interview, I went home and did my best to not get my hopes up that I would be offered the job. But even though I tried, I found myself hoping and praying that I would get a call telling me I got the job. A few weeks later that call came, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I cried a little bit. And my first impressions were not wrong. From the administration and the staff, to the parents and the students, I thank my lucky stars everyday that I have the opportunity to teach in this special place. When I’m not at school, I love to crochet, read (of course), play softball (Go Mallards!), and binge watch TV shows with my partner Gunnar, and our cat, Poe.
Elective of the week - In the Arts of the World elective, students create traditional and stylized versions of arts common around the world. In the first week, we practiced origami and the past 2 weeks have focused on mini-pinatas. Students created pinata bears, donkeys, cubes, lizards, plans, and snowmen! In coming weeks, we'll focus on Turkey and Brazil as our inspirations.
WEEKLY HEALTH TIP - By Mrs. Best/P.E. Teacher - Health Tip #12
Thanksgiving – 5 Tips to Keep It Healthy
- Eat Breakfast – You won’t be as hungry and less likely to overeat at dinner time.
- Exercise Early – Take a morning walk or go for a jog before the festivities begin.
- Stay Hydrated – Not drinking enough water could bring on hunger pangs, which may be thirst.
- Use a Small Plate – Eat your Thanksgiving meal on a small plate because larger plates lead to larger food intake.
- No When To Stop – Stop eating before you have the chance to feel full.
Annual Giving Campaign - Thank you to all who have supported RMAE students through a pledge to the Annual Giving Campaign! The final numbers will be tallied up after we return from Thanksgiving Break. So, there is still time for you to send in your pledge.
Dad's Club - Come join us - Don't miss out on the fun while we work to help our kids and their school! Next meeting, Monday, December 4th, 6:30-7:30PM at the Wild Game.
Classroom News
2nd Grade - Making cookies to show the different parts of an animal cell.
8th Grade - Part of the Core Knowledge Curriculum for 8th grade is studying Autobiographies. After reading excerpts of Maya Angelou's, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, students then got to work on their own autobiographies! They had a choice as to how they put together their life story: create a soundtrack, let technology tell their story, write poems, compose and record an original song, or create a graphic novel outlining the important events in their life. They were challenged to pick only a few moments that they believe shaped who they are today. We laughed, we cried, and we reminisced about shared moments during presentations in which they showed the class the project they decided to complete and work on for the past week.
