Thanks for doing your best to help them.  Thanks for being supportive of your child’s teacher as they find creative ways to engage their students and sustain their love of learning. Board Meeting Summary

Family Summary of April Board of Directors Meeting

On April 9, the RMAE Board of Directors held its first ever virtual meeting, which required us to get used to the very platform that our kids seemed to have learned so proficiently!  We even had some visitors join us, though there were no public comments this month.

Nearly every topic we discussed is affected by this pandemic, and families should know that RMAE - and all schools - will be impacted financially.  As a charter school, our main source of funding is State-provided Per Pupil Revenue (PPR).  The State may reduce PPR due to decreased tax revenue and to pay for public health expenses, even for the current year against what was promised, and nearly certainly for next year.  To reflect the necessary changes, the Board approved a very conservative 2021 budget for submission to Jeffco and Colorado Department of Education.  We will have the flexibility to add expenses if our estimates are incorrect, but we have elected to plan for a more austere scenario in light of our strategy of sustainability.

On a positive pandemic note, we would like to thank all the teachers, staff, and parents who have made online education possible.  We are so proud and grateful for everyone’s contributions, flexibility, and success on this learning curve.  The Principal’s Report included updated enrollment and hiring actions for next school year.  We look forward to meeting the new families and teachers who will join our community.

The process for multi-purpose building design continues in a hopeful manner, even if the current financial environment does not allow for the swift build-out we had been planning.  When this crisis is over, we will still need a multi-purpose building to serve our school community.  Therefore we continue to seek affordable financing options to combine with our imminent debt refinance transaction.  We will keep the community informed of any developments.

Finally, you may have noticed the call for new Board members above.  Please consider serving our school community, especially if you have some of the experience or skills mentioned.  Feel free to reach out to Kelli ([email protected]) or any of us if you have any questions or want to hear about what the work entails.  In addition to the three members our school community will elect, the Board will appoint one new member during the May 14 meeting to complete one year of service from an unfinished term.  We hope to see you there, even if there is in cyberspace!

Health Department Update

Coronavirus - Please refer to the district’s coronavirus information page  as new information becomes available from public health resources, including the CDC.   RMAE will continue to follow the district's direction as they have been coordinating with local public health agencies as we monitor the global outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), keeping in close contact with Jeffco Public Health Department (JCPH) and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) on this subject.
