Elections
Our Board of Directors consists of 9 members, 8 of which represent current RMAE families. Every year three of our Board of Directors terms expire.
What Does a Board Member Do?
The Board of Directors is tasked with the overall governance and strategic direction of the school. As outlined by the by-laws that govern the school, we are tasked with ensuring the overall well-being and success of the school.
While the Board is charged with providing guidance and strategic direction to the school, the day-to-day operations of the school are the responsibility of the principal and the other professional educators and staff. As a guiding principle, we feel strongly that the staff is accountable to the Principal and the Principal is accountable to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is ultimately accountable to the parents and kids at our school.
As a Board, we currently meet once a month in a session open to the public. We occasionally add meetings depending on the agenda and overall needs of the school. Meetings run 2-3 hours and are generally held, the second Thursday of every month at 6:30pm at the school. Occasionally, the board will meet in “executive session” to discuss confidential matters as outlined in the bylaws of the school.
Hours spent working as a Board member, of course, counts towards your volunteer hours to our school!!
Committee involvement?
We encourage our directors to join and participate a committee. Committees meet either monthly or bi-monthly. The committees include SAC (Student Accountability Committee), Finance, Facilities, Marketing, Technology, Policy and FUNdraising. Meetings can run 2-3 hours and are held in different locations. This too counts towards your volunteer hours for our school.
