School Calendar Change
Since last May we have been working with our new math curriculum company on setting up training for our teachers.  The availability of trainers has been limited.  However, they have informed us of availability on Oct 18th.  Since this training involves all our core teachers, the Board has approved adding a professional development day with no students.  We appreciate your understanding and know this training will have a positive impact on our math instruction.  There will be no school for students on October 18th.
Please join the JeffCo Charter School Consortium for its School Board Candidate Forum in preparation for the Nov. 7th election. This forum will be focused on JeffCo charter school issues. All charter school parents are invited to attend and hear what the school board candidates think about public charter schools. The forum will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Addenbrooke Classical Academy located at 3940 S. Teller Street, Lakewood, CO 80235.

Middle school students have been diving into drawing skills. This week they learned about contour lines and practiced blind contour drawing. Blind contour drawing strengthens hand eye coordination. It involves looking at an object 100% of the time and following the contours and details with your eyes while moving a pencil at the same speed and in the same direction as your eye moves. In the photos they are holding the photograph in front of their drawing so they can't look at the drawing. The rules were to not look at the drawing until finished and to not pick up the pencil at to avoid losing your place. Students started with photos of objects then they drew objects in the room and even other students.
5th Grade had a BLAST setting off their Alka-Seltzer rockets.
Recess Fun !
A big thank you to all that took the time to fill out the required annual update forms. If you did not complete the annual registration update, Ms Renken will be reaching out to you via email to help get this completed.  This is an important part of working with the school this year and is required by Jeffco.
We have a community volunteer opportunity that comes with a free ticket to the Hops Drops Evergreen music festival.

** Volunteer shifts will be three hours in length, and in exchange for your time, effort, and hard work, you'll be gifted a ticket to the festival, plus a beverage token ($40 value)**

Our next PTO meeting is tomorrow, Tuesday September 19th at 3:30pm in the Den. We encourage all to attend if available.

PAWSS interest pizza party will be on September 20th at the school from 5-6:30pm.
Family Summary of the September Board Meeting
September's meeting focused on CMAS test score reviews, with an evaluation of the positive impact the Wit and Wisdom curriculum has made on student learning.  The board also reviewed the positive progress of the many committees with an emphasis on the Leadership Team and Student Accountability Committee (SAC) academic and cultural goals for the year.

The board had the opportunity to meet with student council President Hudson Steward and Vice President Kai Wallace.  The board thanks the student council and student committees for all of their hard work and is excited about all the wonderful things in store for the school year.

The next regular board meeting is on October 12th, 2023, at 6:30 PM, in The Den community room. Come join us and learn about all that is happening at RMAE.
