WEEKLY HEALTH TIP - By: Mrs. Best/P.E. Teacher - Colorado Proud School Meal Day is on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. This is a day to celebrate Colorado agriculture and to educate schoolchildren about healthy eating. In order to encourage eating habits that will promote a lifetime of optimal health, it is essential to teach children about the importance of eating foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and low-fat dairy. Proper nutrition is critical if our educational programs and our students are going to continue to excel.
Health Tip #2 - In honor of Colorado Proud School Meal Day, make an effort to buy fruits and vegetables that are grown in Colorado. Most grocery stores have a section of produce labeled as “Colorado grown.”
This Week’s Goals -
- Eat a dark-green, red, or orange “Colorado grown” vegetable at dinner.
- Enjoy a “Colorado grown” fruit for dessert in place of a high sugar dessert at dinner.
