Classroom News
1st & 3rd Grade - Field Trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science -
4th Grade - All of your amazing students did a great job on their NWEA winter quizzes!
An interesting story: Every Veteran’s day I tell my students about a wonderful young man, who enlisted at 17 due to the shortage of soldiers in World War II. I explain to the 4th graders how he gave so much of himself to protect our great country. Every year the students write letters to this amazing World War II Veteran, who is now into his 90s’. This year Mr. Egleston wrote back to the fourth grade. They then were able to speak to him on the phone (they can now say, “I spoke to a WWII veteran!”, pretty memorable).
With every experience like this one students make amazing connections.
One of our fourth graders, Mylee Ramirez's, great grandfather was a Navy Pilot in WWII. Luckily, Mylee’s father was able to come in and teach our fourth and seventh graders about how Mylee’s great grandfather served as a Navy pilot. He brought in several WWII artifacts. Fourth and seventh graders were able to ask questions and learn about this amazing piece of history.
6th Grade - The NREL Experience, by Abbie Geiger
The NREL experience is unique. It's a rare mix of educational, and actually really fun! When sixth grade went to NREL, we were the audience of an interesting presentation. It included charts of the growth of renewable energy vs. nonrenewable energy, photos of the current projects that they are working on, like a floating windmill, or the comparisons they are doing with amounts of energy used in house appliances. We also learned about the VR lie thing that they use to see data. When we were there, we also got to play games. The games were to help us get a better understanding of how the power sources work. We had a chance to experiment with fans and little models of windmills, compare the amount of watts, and the heat that different light bulbs give off. We also learned how, and why different papers let different amounts of light to the solar panel that was underneath.
Everyone enjoyed the NREL experience. A quote from one of the students, “ It's really cool how they have miniature models of the structures that they use to get energy!” shows how much they liked it, and would love to do it again some time!
7th Grade - This year, each grade level at RMAE will be working on a community outreach project in order to solidify the Core Virtues we focus on and bring our Random Acts of Kindness program to life! These projects range from collecting supplies for an animal shelter to passing out thank you notes to teachers in the school. The 7th graders decided they wanted to start a pen-pal program with the residents of the LifeCare Center and Elk Run Assisted Living. Our hope is that the students can provide a link for the residents and explore the various ways of incorporating charitable acts into everyday life! We also hope to visit our pals in the Spring!
Middle School Geography Bee - Thank you to all the students who participated in our annual geography bee. This year's winners are: 1st place, Reagan Kipp; 2nd place, Kimball Boyle; and 3rd place, Steinar Johns. Congratulations!
Middle School Office Elves - When called on to help out in the office, these young ladies were happy to assist! Thank you!
