Message from the Principal

Hello RMAE families,
One of the many aspects of RMAE that make us stand out from the rest is our amazing school community.  That was certainly exemplified at the Trunk or Treat event tonight!  We had well over 200 people on campus!  Everyone enjoyed the camaraderie and lively atmosphere, which included a full parking lot of creatively decorated cars and getting spooked in the Haunted Hall.  The middle schoolers did a fantastic job kicking off the event with their zombie dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller then again later with a flash mob rendition.  Throughout the event the middle school Grillin’ elective provided hot off the grill hotdogs for dinner.  I can’t say it enough – RMAE is a special place with absolutely marvelous people!

Look for photos from tonight's Trunk or Treat event in next week's newsletter.

Your Proud Principal,

Dr. Ann Husdon

Kindergarten/Technology - Kindergarteners had a chance to use the Makerspace with Mr. Dunbar to build different types of Native American homes! We just started our unit on Native Americans and learned about three types of homes/shelters: A wetu home, tipi (teepee), and a plankhouse. Students partnered up to make whichever shelter they chose using a variety of supplies!

3rd Grade/Technology - Ms. Prouty's class simulated space activities in their technology class this week.  They experimented with trying to make a puzzle with space gloves, giving each other communications over walkie talkies while writing down the words and trying to get computers to work to simulate repairing computers in space.

4th Grade - Space Foundation Thank Yous - Upon returning from the Air Force field trip, Mrs. Vickery's class wrote thank yous to the Space Foundation and Astronaut, Duane G. "Digger" Carey.  Click on this Space Foundation Thank You Link to view and read some of these letters.  They are sure to put a smile on your face.

4th & 5th Grade - The fourth and fifth grade classes traveled to the Air Force Academy on October 9th. They had an incredible day of science exploration, including experiments using chemistry, physics, electricity and robotics.  They also met Astronaut, Duane G. "Digger" Carey and learned about life on the space shuttle.

5th Grade/Art - Students were treated to observe an ancient, rare art form created by a Tibetan Buddhist monk on their field trip to Congregation Beth Evergreen (our neighbor to the east).   They created a sand mandala while performing sacred music.

RMAE Happenings

Health and Wellness - Just a friendly reminder as we are heading into cold and flu season:

  • If your child is sick at home, he/she must be free of symptoms for at least 24 hours without medication before they return to school. (This includes vomiting/diarrhea.)
  • If your sick child goes home from school, he/she may not return to school until they have been without symptoms for at least 24 hours without medication.
  • Even when no fever is present – Please keep your child home when his/her symptoms affect their ability to concentrate and learn and/or may affect the ability of others to concentrate and learn.
  • Frequent good hand washing, covering your cough and not sharing food/eating utensils is most important to stop the spread of illness!

When we all take care to be well at school, we are supporting a healthier school community!

Great Compassion Mandala Tour - October 23-28th - Congregation Beth Evergreen (our neighbor to the east) will be hosting Tibetan Buddhist monks with the Ngari Institute for Buddhist Dialectics.  They will be creating a sand mandala and performing sacred music. This is a great opportunity for our families to see and experience this rare art form.  The event is open to the public daily from 10AM to 5PM. During the dissolution ceremony on October 28, the monks will destroy the mandala and carry the sand to Evergreen Lake, to symbolize impermanence, and attendees will receive packets of the sacred sand.
