Message from the Principal

Hello RMAE Families,

One of the milestones each year for your child is celebrating their birthday.  This year, student birthdays at our school will be celebrated with non-food alternatives in accordance with the district’s wellness policy.  The following is an excerpt from their policy:

Why do we have nutrition standards?

  • Due to changes in Federal rules, school districts are required to provide standards for foods shared with other students.
  • Protecting students with food allergies and diabetes, supporting family decisions around foods, and reducing equity issues is also very important.

Are there birthday ideas for families and classrooms?

  • Ideas (many from students) on fun ways to celebrate birthdays can be found here.
  • The Wellness Policy Guidelines and other nutrition policy can be found here.

If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].  At RMAE we will honor your child on their special day by announcing their birthday on the morning announcements.  This will include students who have birthdays during holidays, weekends, etc.  They will also be specially recognized in their classroom.  We appreciate your support and understanding as we continue to reflect on how to provide all students with a safe and healthy environment.   Please talk with your child’s teachers about alternative ideas or if you have questions.

Your proud Principal,
Dr. Ann Hudson

Classroom News

100 Elk -  It was an exciting week for our middle school students (6th-8th) who attended a 3-day field trip this week to 100 Elk located near Buena Vista.  Students were able to partake in horseback riding, ropes courses, hiking, archery, canoeing, evening bonfires and various other team-building exercises.   They returned this afternoon tired, but with ear to ear grins.

Elem Art - by Kathy Saari Here is a picture of a nature mandala that Mrs. Weiker's fifth graders made in art class.  I've never done this before so I didn't have many instructions for them, I was just experimenting but they were very excited about what they created and I'm pretty impressed!

RMAE Happenings

Safety Issues - Parents, thank you for helping to make the drop-off and pick-up run relatively smoothly for the start of the school year.

Reminders:

  • Parents of middle school students, should not arrive in the pick-up circle until 3:15 pm or later (but before 3:30 pm).
  • We ask that parents not park by the dumpsters, as it poses a safety issue for students crossing the road.
  • We prefer parents use the circle for drop-off and pick-up unless you have other business to attend to.

Library Volunteers Still Needed - Thank you to those who have already signed up to volunteer in the Library.  Currently, the library is closed until the project is completed. Our students need your help!  We are seeking volunteers to help organize the books.  The only prior knowledge required is putting things in alpha order!  If you are able to spare some time, please let us know by completing this Library Volunteer Form.  Thank you for supporting RMAE and helping to make it an even better place!

Reminders

Back to School Nights - Please mark your calendars for back to school night:
Grades K-5 – Tuesday, Sept. 4, 6-7:30 pm
Grades 3, 7 & 8 – Wednesday, Sept. 5, 6-7:30 pm

Attendance Line – When your child is absent from school, we ask that you notify the school by either emailing your attendance information to [email protected], or by calling 303-670-1070 (if rolled to voice mail, option 1) by 9:00 am. Please leave your child’s name, grade, date your child will be absent, reason for absence and the name of the person reporting the absence. You should inform the school each day your child is absent.

Pre-Arranged Absences Reminder – You may complete the Pre-Arranged Absence Request Form for absences known in advance when a student is going to miss one or more school days.  It is the Parent’s responsibility to initiate communications (in a timely manner) with the appropriate teacher(s) regarding whether a student will take supplemental work with them or if they will receive make-up work after the excused absence.  Please keep in mind that if your student is struggling in the classroom, adding more challenges by pulling the student out of the classroom is likely not the best choice for your child’s educational well-being.

Known Absence Request Forms are available from the office or on our website under Forms.  The form provides a sign off (and comment) section for school personnel to communicate with your family. The form should be completed by the parents and then delivered to the student’s homeroom/advisory teacher to start the process.  Grades 6-8 will be required to have their core and specials teachers’ signatures.  They can then bring the form to the office for routing.

Please feel free to contact administration if you have any questions regarding the policy or consequences.

October Lunch Order Form -  Once you have submitted your order, your student's School Account will be billed, after which, payments may be made through Jeffco Connect.  Deadline for October orders is Friday, September 14th.
