Principal's Note

Dear RMAE Families,

A loud shout-out to all of you who have supported our events the past couple of weeks!  Without your support they wouldn’t have been so successful.  We had middle school Olympic field day, Cinderella production, the Carnival, Community Service Day, and signups to support teacher appreciation week.  We have more information and pictures included in this newsletter. Thank you for being an integral part of this amazing school community!

Your proud Principal,
Dr. Ann Hudson

Community Service Day

Our many thanks go to Jamie Brand for organizing this event!  Please see her message to our students, staff,  parent volunteers and community members who all helped make this a successful event.   Message from Jamie Brand, our CSD Coordinator Link

A Message from one of the CSD Volunteers - from Jefferson County Open Space

I wanted to thank you for the tremendous opportunity to work with such a bright and hard working group of kids. I was very impressed with the amount of accurate information that the students came to the project already knowing. We look forward to working with the school again next year.

Link HERE to view some pictures I was able to take of the project.

Cheers, Mathew Martinez, Volunteer Services Specialist

Classroom News

2nd Grade - As a part of the biology and life cycle unit, students were able to see first hand and track the life cycle of the nine chicken eggs that hatched recently in their classroom. As you can see, the 2nd grade students have obviously become attached to these furry chicks.

8th Grade - Snow Mountain Ranch

We are having a really fun time!  We took a survival class with our Y leader, TJ.  Students had to create shelters from only natural material that would keep them safe from the elements. They were given about 45 minutes to build them. We had so much fun - a highlight of our trip.  Wednesday, the students had an orienteering class. They had to calculate how many feet were in one “pace.” Then they had a riddle to solve by following “clues” (tree cookies!!!) which told them the degree to travel on their compasses, how many feet to go, and a word that in the end made one quote:  “one thorn of danger is worth a forest of experience”.

Arts of the World Elective - The students in the Arts of the World Elective created Pinwheels for Peace. The idea came from the International Peace Day initiative, which started as a day for students to express their feelings about peace and collaborate with their peers.  It turned into a world-wide event. Our students wrote words of peace, acceptance, and strength on their pinwheels and they are displayed in front of building 3 to also support Colorado's Day Without Hate, which takes place this Friday across the state.

Art Class Memory Project - Jaden Best recently completed a beautiful portrait of a young girl from Puerto Rico for the Memory Project. The portrait will be delivered to the young girl as a gift. Congratulations, to Jaden for her hard work and kindness. The Memory Project is an optional project middle school students can participate in.

2nd Annual Carnival

What a fabulous night of family fun!  Thank you again to all those who helped organize, volunteered for, and donated food items to help make this event a night to remember.

The Penny War Winners!  Or, Losers, depending on your perspective!  Mrs. Best enjoys the pie throwing (a little too much?).  Dr. Hudson not enjoying the kiss with the snake so much.....
