Principal's Note

Dear RMAE Families,

I hope everyone had a great time with family over spring break.  It has been fun listening to the kids talk about their adventures!  This year sure has flown by and now we are in the last quarter.  There are many fun events planned the next two months so please stay tuned through our school newsletter and messengers.

I am honored to share, two of our teachers who have been with RMAE since our beginning years are moving on to their next phase of life and retiring.  Karen Hines and Ann Hushen have been a staple in our school and a huge part of our community.    We will certainly miss them, but wish them all the best in their next adventure!

Your proud Principal,
Dr. Ann Hudson

Classroom News

3rd Grade - Kiwanis Super Reader Awards

7th Grade Art - Students are proud to have completed their bound, illustrated poetry books.

8th Grade Social Studies - Just before spring break, in 8th grade history class, students participated in a trade simulation to conclude our Core Knowledge Unit: The Middle East and Oil Politics. The students worked in groups to represent their country's interests in trade. They set prices for gold, oil, lumber, electronics, and coffee and then traded with the other countries. As world events took place, the value of the goods fluctuated each round. Students worked to creatively market their goods and make the smartest trades to end up with the most points.

8th Grade Language Arts -  We acted out the courtroom scene of To Kill a Mockingbird, the last novel we’re reading this year.  Students volunteered for parts, rearranged the classroom to set the scene, and worked to embody the characters they were playing.  They loved being able to play some of their favorite characters from the book.  And, I had a ton of fun watching their wonderful imaginations go!

8th Grade Science - Students used their real-time-data to predict the uncontrolled re-entry of the Chinese Space Station, Tiangong-1.  To read more about this project, please follow this link - 8th Grade Science Chinese Space Station Tiangong-1 Project.

Gardening Elective - On Thursday, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders cleaned the greenhouse!  We cleaned out the dead plants, turned the soil, and organized supplies. The dead plants were retired to a compost pile. Even though it was hot, dirty, and hard word, we had a ton of fun. We can’t wait to start planting next week!

News from the Board

The next Board meeting is scheduled for April 12th at 7:00 pm in the music room next to the technology room. Everyone is welcome to attend. There will be time for public comment at the beginning and at the end of the meeting.  We would love to hear from you.

Elections for new Board of Directors Parent Representatives:

Three seats for parent representatives will be opening up in June. These are three-year positions (there is term flexibility for middle school parents). One person with a background in accounting and finance is especially needed to succeed Treasurer, Gil Gomez. Please consider serving with us on the Board of Directors. It is a great way to keep informed and to serve the school community. Please submit letters of interest and a short resume to the BoD at [email protected]

Election Committee Volunteers - We are also still looking for volunteers to run the election. The election committee requires a parent and a teacher to collect the letters of interest, run the Meet the Candidates Event the second week of April, run the election, and present the results. If interested, please contact President, Amy Broxterman at [email protected] ASAP.
