Dear RMAE Community:

Thanks to all who attended the September 7, 2017 Board meeting. For those not in attendance, we would like to provide an update on noteworthy items from the meeting.

Our primary action item this week was to form a Fundraising Committee. We  determined it is important to have a Committee focused solely on raising the funds we need to fulfill our school’s core mission – to ensure that our school staff have all the resources they need to “inspire each student to pursue personal and academic excellence through an intellectually challenging Core Knowledge curriculum within a nurturing environment.” We appreciate all that has been done on this front in the past, particularly by the parents who have devoted significant time and energy to fund-raising activities led by the PTO and the RMAE Foundation. We anticipate the Fundraising Committee will build on those past efforts, and continue the critical work of establishing a strong financial foundation for our school.

Another important item was Principal Hudson’s discussion of her plans for continued improvement of our children’s educational experience. One area she has targeted for particular improvement this year is math. You may have noticed the new GoMath workbooks and concepts your children have brought home with them. We hope you have taken note of the Parent Academy scheduled for this coming Tuesday, September 19. This is a great opportunity to learn about the many benefits of the Go Math!
program, along with the key things you can do as a parent to support your child’s learning.

While recognizing the importance of academic performance, we also place a very high value as a community on developing our children’s character. On that front, we were excited to hear about Principal Hudson’s plans for helping our students develop leadership skills, better embody our school’s core virtues, and engage in more acts of kindness. Among other things, our children may look forward to more opportunities to
participate in student government, to engage in service projects, and to enjoy the unique mentoring potential inherent in our K-through-8 structure.

Finally, we would like to remind you of our Board working session this coming Saturday, September 16. We will meet at 9:00 a.m. at the school. This meeting is our first step in creating a strategic plan that will guide our efforts as a school community going forward.
We think it is critical to our short-term and long-term success to be thoughtful and intentional – proactive rather than reactive – about who we are and what we want to be. Please come participate. As we noted in our last update, we want to hear your views of our strengths as a school, your vision of where we want to go, and your thoughts on how we’ll be able to leverage our strengths to get there.

With Thanks for Your Continued Support,

Your Rocky Mountain Academy of Evergreen Board of Directors:
