Hello everyone!  I wanted to say THANK YOU for an incredible year!  I know without a doubt I this year wouldn't have been as successful if it wasn't for all your help.  You are amazing but better yet, you have even more amazing kids!
As promised, attached you will find two pfd files for summer homework.  If your child turns it in with 100 % completion, they will earn a free dress pass.

1. Young Writers Conference-   DEADLINE for registration is tomorrow! Every year mountain area kids K-5 have the opportunity to participate in the Mountain Area Young Writers Conference.  It is being held at Marshdale Elementary on April 19th from 6:00 PM-8:30 PM.  This week, the students began working on writing and illustrating their own ABC book.  This is a project we do at school over the course of several weeks.  

The YWC is a wonderful opportunity for your child to present their book in a "peer" group setting (5-7 kids in a group) while you (the parent) get to attend one of our wonderful presenter workshops.  I am on the YWC for the mountain area and I am saying that you don't want to miss this opportunity...and it's FREE.  Even though it is free, you still have to register your child.  There is a deadline.  Please feel free to contact me for any questions you may have.  Thanks!

2.  Scholastic Book Orders-  Due date will be March 30th.  Thank you!

1. The kids had a great time at the Arvada Center and were very animated during their workshop play presentation of "Rainbow Fish".
2.  PLEASE send your children to school with ALL appropriate weather gear (snow boots, snow pants, mittens, hats).  We will have recess as well as PE outside.  It would be sad if kids couldn't participate because they don't have the proper gear for the conditions.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me.

1. Thank you to Julie Gregory (Cora's mom) for organizing our Valentines Day Party! Thank you to everyone who volunteered that day as well as brought stuff in for the event. The kids had a blast!

2. We have a field trip on Tuesday to the Arvada Center. We will be leaving at 9:00 AM and arriving back at school around 2:00 PM. Please have your child wear their red uniform shirt as well as bring a sack lunch and a disposable water bottle (name on both). If you ordered hot lunch for your child on that day, a sack lunch will be provided.

3. Thank you for all the food donations! We donated 100 cans...weighing in at 111lbs (also breaking our 100th day record) to Echo.

I want to start off by saying...Thank you to Julia Corrin for putting together the holiday party!  Thank you to all the parent volunteers that helped and endured the craziness!
Just a couple of items I need to share:
1.  Please check your child's Friday folder for my gift to them.  I told them that it was up to you as to when they can open it.
2.  Also in your child's folder is a "Fluency Packet".  It is not homework but it important to occasionally play the games in the packet.  It would be a shame to lose skills we have worked so hard to achieve.
3.  I look forward to seeing all the kids when we return on Monday, January 8th!

Unit 3 Week 1

1. Skills: Informational Text, Compare and Contrast, verbs
Letter of the Week- Nn and Bb

Activities included- Handwriting practice, sight word practice, letter recognition and sounds, fine motor activities, reading groups, adjective activities, letters Bb and Nn and verb activities.


Math
We finished Chapter 5- Addition. We will begin Chapter 6- Subtraction on Monday.

Social Studies
We began our Unit Study on the continent of Africa. We will be learning about the geography, animals, culture/people of Africa as well as listen to African stories and songs.

Ongoing communication/Important dates

1. With the help of Jo Benjamin, on Monday, the children made ornaments that will go to the Senior Resource Center. This was a wonderful opportunity for the kids to do a random act of kindness.

2. While on the subject of Random Act of Kindness, if anyone feels led to do a service project for the community and would like our kinder students to participate, let me know and we can make it happen!

3. Stay tuned for volunteer opportunities for our class winter party! It will be on Wednesday, Dec. 20th from 8:30-10:00.

4. Volunteering in the classroom is a great opportunity to see what and how your student it doing!
