Do You Love Trees?
We certainly do here at RMAE! Our school has been officially
recognized as a Colorado Project Learning Tree (PLT) School in
partnership with the Colorado State Forest Service. Teachers attended
two separate professional development in-services (January 6 and again
yesterday) with some required "homework" to help RMAE receive this
recognition. Congratulations to our teachers and especially for the hard
work of Tracee Vickery with planning, organizing, and facilitating the
PLT training. Special thanks also to our PTO for purchasing PLT's K-8
Environmental Education Activity Guide.
So, do you love trees? No doubt, just by living in this beautiful
mountain community that question is answered. However, RMAE is
positioned to provide you an opportunity to take action on that "love".
One outcome of our teachers participating in PLT is that RMAE received
120 native Colorado seedlings from the nursery at Colorado State
University. Twenty of these seedlings will be planted by each class in
designated areas on our campus. This leaves 100 seedlings to offer to
families to plant on their own property.
How do you get one of these seedlings? This opportunity will be
discussed in class by teachers with their students. Next step is for the
student to take a form home to be filled out, getting permission to
bring a seedling home. This form also includes a plan for its planting
and care. Please work with your child to help make this school-to-home
project successful. Seedlings will be given to the first 100
"applicants".
Our next step as a school (which will include more participation by
students) is to become a National PLT Green School focused on the use
and management of our natural resources and environment. Exciting stuff!

Preschool – Under New Management, Same Quality Program, Same Location
The RMAE Preschool will officially become The Learning Center (TLC)
Preschool of Evergreen on July 1st. The preschool, under the direction
of Debbie Caruso, will continue with the Core Knowledge Program. If you
have a preschooler, don't pass up the opportunity to be part of this
quality program. RMAE will continue with established connections between
TLC preschoolers and our middle schoolers. Look for more information on
this transition for TLC and our continued partnership in future
newsletters.
Director/Principal Search
As a reminder, the first opportunity for the Search Committee to
interview selected applicants is this Saturday, April 16. There will be
two interviews: one at 9:00am (by Skype) and the second at 10:30am.
These interviews will be held in the music room downstairs. Please
access the building through the cafeteria (south doors). If you do
attend, it will be as observers only.

RMAE Happenings
Talent Show – Kudos go to Don Williams for putting together the talent show this year. 
Who
knew there was so much talent right here in our little school! RMAE has
a huge body of vocal talent along with talented students who performed
magic acts, dancing, and played melodies on the violin, piano and cello.
There were 34 acts which included more than 40 students who performed
their talents in front of a standing room only crowd of proud parents.
Thank you to the students who participated and their parents for
supporting them.

Last week for can collecting for the Baskin Robbins and EChO Food Drive
– Baskin Robbins is facilitating a food drive to benefit Evergreen
Christian Outreach (EChO), which in turn benefits those families in need
of a little assistance right here in our Evergreen community. This is
where you come in – we are asking our families to donate canned goods to
assist in the collection efforts. The classroom that brings in
the most canned goods will be awarded with an ice cream party sponsored
by Evergreen Baskin Robbins! So, send those canned goods to school with your students for them to deliver to their classrooms by April 19th.
The owner of Baskin Robbins (a former RMAE parent) will collect the
cans from the school to then construct a CAN DAM masterpiece inside the
Baskin Robbins store for all to admire (after which, they will be
delivered to EChO)!
Sunshine Committee Requests – The Gaskell family
(Gavin & Landon Fullmer, 5th & 4th grade) is in need of help
with rides home from school and meal support for several weeks
(beginning April 19th) while mom Britt recovers from upcoming rotator

Elective of the Week – Field Hockey –
Middle Schoolers are having a blast in Miss Landau’s field hockey
elective! This complicated sport, with over 15 rules to learn, is not an
easy feat for these middle school students. Students are working on
dribbling techniques, passing, and defending when learning the
fundamentals of field hockey. 
Everyone
loves playing games like steal the bacon, knock out, and full field
scrimmage. Trevor and Langston say they enjoy field hockey because of
the challenge, it is new, and lots of fun! Field hockey is a
predominantly female sport in the U.S., yet the elective consists of
mostly boys! There are opportunities throughout Colorado to continue
field hockey. If any of your students are interested in summer camps or
summer field hockey teams, feel free to contact Miss Landau for more
information.
Art Shows – The RMAE art department is pleased to announce two
shows running concurrently with artwork by RMAE elementary and middle
school students. Stop in to check them out if you are in the area.
Elementary School Entries are at the Evergreen Jefferson County Public Library
during the month of April. This exhibit showcases more than 25 projects

Middle School Art Show Entries: Six middle school students have art on display in the juried 18th Annual Jeffco Middle School Art Show at the Lakewood Cultural Center,
with one of them receiving an award. Please stop by to see the amazing
art done by middle school students from across the district if you are
in the area. The show is at 470 S. Allison Parkway in Lakewood, near the
intersection of Alameda and Wadsworth. There is an opening reception on
April 27 from 5-8 pm.

News from the Board

As one of our community outreach events, the marketing committee
has arranged to have a table at King Soopers this Saturday from 11-3 to
promote RMAE. We need parents who love our school be at the table to
distribute marketing materials and answer questions about the school. Please sign up for a 1-hour shift on the Google Doc. We are also planning to have MS ambassador student to be at the table to help share their enthusiasm for our wonderful school.
News from the Foundation
A HUGE thank you to the 46 families who have given! We are at almost 76% of our goal!
And thank you also to the families who have set up a monthly recurring gift and have applied for a company matching gift.
We are wrapping up our Annual Giving campaign this month and need your family’s support in order to achieve our goal.
As you know, funds raised through our Annual Giving campaign will go
to replenish the school's reserves, to enhance K-8 programming beyond
what the general fund budget can afford, and to support our marketing
efforts with the objective of increasing our enrollment.
