Becoming a Sweetheart: RMAE’s Top 10

Did you remember everything (said and unsaid, promised or not) that you were supposed to do or purchase for your Sweetheart and Valentine? I hope that you did.  If not, you have my best wishes for redemption. I’ve been there!

At RMAE, we like sweethearts year-round and this descriptor can be earned equally by moms, dads, and students. Below is our Top 10 Countdown on Ways to Become an RMAE Sweetheart.

  1. Always remember during the school day to sign-in at the front lobby desk with a smile before heading off to other parts of the school campus.
  2. Call early in the morning to leave a message regarding your child’s absence.
  3. Volunteer for carpool line and show up smiling. Come join Jodi and Laurie in the morning.
  4. Share your cooking and baking talents for teacher/staff potlucks and appreciation days.
  5. Practice memory skills at home so your child will remember the weekly door code.
  6. Demonstrate that carpool line in the circle is the time to display extraordinary patience and the best of one’s safe driving skills.
  7. Send Tiffany Fontaine a “Thank you” for her unselfish leadership as our PTO President.
  8. Volunteer for Community Service Day (April 26). It’s a memorable day where we all get together to work for a common cause and to honor others for their service to this community.
  9. Send a written note of appreciation to a former teacher or your child’s current teacher. And Numero Uno Is!
  10.  Bring in lattes from Espresso Evergreen for the front office!

Can you think of others ways to become an RMAE Sweetheart? I’d be glad to post them in a future newsletter. In the meantime, enjoy becoming a sweetheart for RMAE. We know we will.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

What’s this I hear about a 4-day school week?

At a Marketing Committee meeting a few weeks ago and at last week’s RMAE Board of Director’s (BOD) meeting, there were conversations about looking into a 4-day school week. As you know there are mountain area districts/schools to the west of us that have 4-day weeks to take advantage of the ski season. At this stage it is only a conversation! There might well be, in SAC’s spring survey, questions about a 4-day week (or a modified version of it during the ski season) and if it should be considered by the BOD.

Again, it is a conversation, nothing has been remotely decided other than survey the community. There could be something in this week’s Canyon Courier as Deb Hurley-Brobst, a reporter for the Courier, was in attendance at the BOD meeting. Please, no rumors!  Only the facts as stated above.

RMAE Happenings

“Let us Know your Plans” letter – These letters will be distributed at your child’s parent/teacher conference. We are requesting that you complete and return these forms to the office to enable us to continue with plans for the upcoming school year. If you did not receive a letter, or have already met with your child’s teacher, they will be emailed out to families next Tuesday.

Proposed 2017-18 RMAE Calendar – The RMAE BOD has given preliminary review of a proposed 2017-18 school calendar. It closely parallels that of Jeffco’s School District for 2017-18 which has already been approved. This proposal is also close to this school year’s calendar.

The proposed calendar has been posted on our website for your review. Check it out at: RMAE Family Calendar – 2017-2018. If you have comments or thoughts about this calendar before it is officially approved at the March 9th meeting, you are welcome to share them by sending an email to [email protected]. These emails will be reviewed by the BOD before it meets in March.

Jump Rope for Heart update –  Did you know that we are not only raising money for the American Heart Association, but also earning money for valuable PE equipment? We need your help! Simply go to RMAE Jump Rope for Heart page and register your child. By taking your personal heart healthy challenge and sending 10 e-cards to your friends and family, you can help children with sick hearts and earn valuable PE equipment for our school. Thank you for supporting the American Heart Association & RMAE! Please email Mrs. Forsythe with any questions.

Easy Money for the School – We are proud to announce that AmeriGas now has a community/school program that will give us $.02 cents on each gallon of propane that our families and staff use during the school year! Simply go to your online account at www.amerigas.com, go to your monthly, quarterly, or annual invoice. The 2nd page on your invoice is the “community/school days receipt”.  Bring this receipt to the school and “voilá” – free money to our school! See the example of the receipt.

Thank you for your participation.

As an FYI, Redlands High School is the school I attended in Southern California. Go Terriers!  Congratulations to Alfred Alig, Sheila Farneth, Jen Fitzgerald, Jolane Galloway, and Joanne Gomez for 5 out of 5 on the matches. Your Golden Ticket will be coming your way soon.

Elective of the Week – Who loves snacks? Middle school students! In Cathy Goodheart’s Healthy Snacks elective, students are able to explore simple cooking, a critical life skill. They work in teams to choose recipes, collect ingredients, cook, and share with their classmates. So far we have shared guacamole, hummus, gluten free muffins, quesadillas, smoothies, and fruit with healthy dips. YUM!

Woodworking Donations – Mr. Dunbar would like to thank all of the families that have helped grow the Woodworking program at Rocky Mountain Academy of Evergreen for their generous donations!

Calendar ChangeApril 28th – NO SCHOOL for students. Originally, April 28th was designated on the calendar as student testing day. This has been changed to non-school (and non-testing) day for students and an in-service day for staff.

Why Give to Annual Giving?

We will be featuring families and the reasons why they have given:

Jackson FamilyThe Jackson Family
Our family donated to the Annual Giving campaign because we love RMAE and want to see it thrive in years to come! We moved over from Marshdale Elementary to RMAE back in the fall of 2013 and it was the best decision we could have made. Our children, Paige (5th) and Tyler (1st), absolutely love their teachers – a special shout out to Mrs. Grose, Mrs. Bartelt, Ms. Hushen and Cherie Mazurek! These women know my children so well, even their quirks :) , and have poured out so much time, energy, and care to ensure they are building both knowledge and character. I look forward to Paige and Tyler attending RMAE through 8th grade and encourage other families to hang in here with us. Please consider giving what you can to this campaign… every donation matters.
– Carole & Chris Jackson

Thank you to the 31 families who have given! We are at 56% of our goal!

You can donate online at rmae.org/donate where we are accepting one-time or recurring monthly donations or download and print the Annual Giving Pledge Form and mail or drop-off your contribution to the front office.
(If you would like to share your reasons for why you gave to our Annual Giving Campaign, please email [email protected].)
