- MOVE into Summer - participate in fun outside games, sports, and activities
- Retreat Week - learn crafts and skills that help us calm down our busy minds. Learn needle crafts, practice yoga, paint, write and so much more!
- Mountain Area Chamber Music Festival - this program will include vocal and strings chamber music led by world-renowned master clinicians and coaches.
- MathCounts - this nationwide program teaches innovative and creative problem-solving skills to students of all levels with a friendly competition at its conclusion.

RMAE Fundraising Brunch at Mount Vernon Canyon Club - Sunday, March 18th, 10AM to 2PM. Teacher Spotlight - Hi! My name is Brinda Pumphrey and I am the middle school art teacher. This is my 7th year at RMAE. I love teaching art to middle school students! I am fortunate to have them for three years so I really get to see their growth as artists. I love their enthusiasm; it gives me energy and feeds my own creativity. We spend a lot of time in art on the planning stages of projects. We tend to produce less art, but what they do produce tends to be an expression of their individuality because of the process. I want to see them find their own artistic voice.
I have two daughters, one going to school at Montana State University in Bozeman, the other graduated last May from CU Boulder. I also have a wonderful husband and a pet bunny named Obi Bun Kenobi. When I am not at school I enjoy painting, hiking, skiing, camping, and spending time with my family. I am currently working on a series of landscape paintings of the Grand Canyon. It is one of my favorite places that I have ever been! I spend a great deal of time scheming and dreaming about going back. I also enjoy listening to music and going to concerts with my daughters. They have introduced me to many great bands that I might have otherwise never heard of. I am a fan of Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings. In fact I have cosplayed Madam Pomfrey at midnight shows and Denver Comic Con on numerous occasions and I am a proud Hufflepuff.
RMAE Student Art Exhibits - The RMAE art department is pleased to present our two largest collections of student artwork for the year. The first will be exhibited at the Center for the Arts Evergreen from March 3 through March 24, with an opening reception on March 3rd from 4 - 7 pm. This exhibit showcases 15 RMAE artists as well as student artists from many other area schools.

WEEKLY HEALTH TIP - By Mrs. Best/P.E. Teacher - Health Tip #23 - Since 1998, I have been studying and researching nutrition. There is one documentary that I feel all parents should watch with their children. The documentary is called, “Fed Up.” This documentary discusses the changes that the food industry has made throughout the last 40 years. Our food has changed a lot since then. If you desire to understand how to feed your body with nutrient-rich foods, then “Fed Up” is a must see. The documentary can be found on Netflix.
I have read many books about nutrition over the past 20 years. Currently, I am reading a book by Mark Hyman, M.D. The book is called “Food: What the Heck Should I Eat”. He has dedicated his career to identifying and addressing the root causes of chronic illness through a groundbreaking whole-systems medicine approach known as Functional Medicine. He is a family physician, a four-time New York Times bestselling author, and an internationally recognized leader in his field. Through his private practice, education efforts, writing, research, advocacy and public-policy work, he strives to improve access to Functional Medicine, and to widen the understanding and practice of it, empowering others to stop managing symptoms and instead treat the underlying causes of illness, thereby also tackling today's chronic-disease epidemic. I have attached a link to a chart from the book, which shows what foods to eat and not eat to aid your body in physical healing and wellbeing.

Classroom News
3rd Grade PE Class - Finally there was snow! Students enjoyed snowshoeing in Bergen Meadow Park during their PE class. We are so fortunate to be located adjacent to this winter wonderland.
4th/5th Grade - Young Ameritowne is a simulation of real life economics. Students in fourth and fifth grade learn about banking, business skills, and government in the classroom prior to their culminating field trip at Young Ameritowne. At Young Ameritowne they put all their skills together for a day, working at actual shops, earning real Young Ameritowne money and experiencing the rules and laws they have developed in the proceeding days. This week students wrote speeches for their primary elections and voted on candidates to run for the general election. Students worked in campaign groups to develop slogans for posters and fliers. The final candidates for Judge and Mayor must give a speech to all our Young Ameritowne citizens. Then each citizen proceeded to the polls to cast their ballot. We are proud of all our citizens and all those who ran. Congratulations to our Mayor Lillie and our Judge Elly!
6th Grade Art - 6th grade went to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to the space exhibit on Wednesday. In art today we talked about how the elements of art give scientists clues to the geologic history of planets. We looked at photos taken from space and talked about what the circles, squiggly lines, straight lines, blobs... in the photos might tell us. Then they each selected a NASA photo as inspiration for an abstract artwork using soft pastels and colored pencils.
7th Grade Art - On Tuesday, Seventh graders learned about the artist Kandinsky. Kandinsky viewed music as the most transcendent form of non-objective art. He felt that musicians could evoke images in listeners' minds merely with sounds. He strove to produce similarly object-free, spiritually rich paintings that alluded to sounds and emotions. Today in art they made art inspired by music.
After School Activities
Golf Squad - All Golf Squads are instructed by golf industry professionals. Everything essential is provided (Golf Squad Handbooks, hats, all clubs, training equipment, etc). Classes will be instructed appropriately to suit the needs of new students as well as continuing students. Parents will receive weekly class emails describing what students will be doing and learning in class.
