Music - Middle School

Middle School Music - by Gretchen Moritz

Music is Science
Music is Mathematics
Music is History
Music is Physical Education
But most of all Music is an art form that allows kids to think creatively, listen intently, work as a team, develop discipline, and explore the world around them in a way like no other.

Every Middle School child attends a general music class twice a week.  Our framework for that class is the grade specific core curriculum. I work to present that information to kids with interactive lessons and experiences.   We listen to music from the great composers of the past and connect what we know and hear with historical events, or trends in music that followed, or societal impact of that music.  We also spend a good deal of class time learning musical elements in the truest sense of experiential learning.   Practicing a piece and creating music on any instrument is powerful instantaneous feedback.

We have one Middle School
Night of the Arts Program, where the kids have the opportunity to show off with both musical accomplishments as well as art pieces.  This is a fun celebration of the arts and RMAE.

Outside of the school day, music opportunities abound.  Our school offers choir, orchestra, and musical theater.  Grade school and Middle School is a fabulous time for kids to venture out and explore the arts beyond what we can do in general music class.   Our choir will perform at the Mountain Area chorale festival as well as a minimum of 2 other concerts for the year.   Please contact me [email protected] if your child is interested in either Jr. Choir or Middle School choir.   I also am a proud founder of Evergreen's newest children's theater 501c3; Mountain Youth Musicals.  We currently will be producing one 3rd - 5th grade musical in the fall and one Middle School musical in the spring, along with a fall audition workshop.  Check us out atwww.mymusicals.org
