Jeffco Connect Parent Contact Information – We are finding that the majority of our parents have incorrect or outdated information in their Jeffco Connect accounts. This information feeds into Infinite Campus, which supplies the information used by PTO for the A to Z Directories. Please take a moment to check that the contact information (phone numbers, addresses, email addresses and notifications) is current for EACH of your contacts. For login issues, call the office.
Elective of the Week - The watercolor elective allows students of all skill levels a chance at artistic expression! Whether they choose to paint from their minds or from a still life object given to them, the students love being able to take time from their day to relax, listen to music, and work on their painting skills.
Specials Class Spotlight - Technology Curriculum - Teaching K-8 Technology is an interesting opportunity given the age range I see. As a teacher, I strive to provide a Technology Curriculum that is engaging, challenging and hands on. I thought I would focus on a few highlights from grades K, 3, 6 and 8 to represent a sampling of what students work on in Tech at RMAE.-
Starting in Kindergarten, students begin learning the fundamentals of computer usage and anatomy. We produce digital artwork, work on cross curricular websites that help support activities in homeroom, and start learning the basics of programming.
In 3rd grade, students focus on learning to type and how to format reports in Google Docs. They also explore their galaxy with a program called NASA's Eyes. This is a program that is effectively Google Earth for our solar system with real satellite imagery from NASA. As a teacher, it is one of my favorite resources in my classroom.
In 6th Grade, students learn how to build mousetrap cars from a step by step video on YouTube. After the mousetrap car is complete, they track distance and speed in a spreadsheet and learn how to edit the data. They will also be working on a two month long 3D printing project for Night of the Arts.
Lastly, 8th Grade will be working almost exclusively with robotics. Each class starts with a story prompt that forces them to problem solve something new. This might be a programming challenge or that they cannot talk with each other while they work.
If you have any questions about what your student is learning in Tech, please email me at [email protected].
Teacher Spotlight - Hi everyone! My name is Anna Grose and I currently teach Kindergarten! I have been a teacher at RMAE for six years; five of those years teaching Kindergarten and one teaching first grade. There are many reasons why I became a teacher; however, the most important one is the love of watching children learn!
I am a Colorado native, growing up just down the hill in Golden. My amazing and very supportive husband (especially at the beginning and the end of school), Dean and our two kids, Jacob and Ashlee, have lived in Evergreen for the last six years and have loved every minute of it! There are many activities we enjoy doing as a family but our most favorite is camping and boating on Lake McConaughy in Nebraska!
Many of my personal extracurricular activities include reading, taking long walks/hikes with my four dogs and just spending special time with my family! I am proud to say that I am a purple belt in Taekwondo (two belts away from black) and that I am a volunteer Fire Fighter for Evergreen Fire Rescue!
WEEKLY HEALTH TIP - By Mrs. Best/P.E. Teacher - Health Tip #5 - This week’s health tip is on character development. Thanks to the cold rainy weather, I had the opportunity to teach the first lesson of the leadership curriculum to our 8th graders this week. Here is a summary of the lesson, which is an integral part of the foundation to the Physical Education curriculum.
The iceberg is a great representation of life. The 10% above the water is your skill. The 90% below the water is your character. It’s what’s below the surface that sinks the ship. It is important that we eat healthy, exercise daily, and drink water. However, the choices we make to be physically healthy only comprise of about 10% of our total health. The other 90% of our health lies within our mind and emotions. This invisible aspect of our life can sink our ship if we don’t take time to develop and nourish our inner life. Our character is the sum total of our:
• Self-Discipline (The ability to do what’s right even if you don’t feel like it)
• Core Values (Principles you live by that enable you to take a moral stand)
• Sense of Identity (A realistic self-image based on your gifts and personality)
• Emotional Security (The capacity to be emotionally stable and consistent)
As a parent of two middle-schoolers, I know how easy it is to focus on my children’s physical health, homework, and grades. At the same time, I know I need to spend equal time listening, acknowledging, and honoring their inner life; their thoughts, opinions, ideas, and feelings. These moments open the door of conversation for us to discuss as a family the importance of creating happiness from the inside-out.
October is just a few days away. The core virtues for October are self-control and self-discipline. Take some time this weekend to discuss what these core virtues mean to you with your children and ways to exhibit these inner virtues.

Library Mural Progress Report – The RMAE Library is back in business thanks to several parents and staff members who have worked hard to clean and reorganize this space. Under the guidance of Brinda Pumphrey, the middle school students are beginning work on a Mural to grace the walls of the new/old Library. They have begun to sketch out their plans on paper and are now working to transfer their work onto the walls. We will keep you posted on their progress.
