September 7th

Dear RMAE families,

So many good things to share I find it difficult to compress it all into a brief synopsis.  I realize every one of you made a commitment when you enrolled with us, to complete 60 volunteer hours.  However, there is a difference in being around because of a requirement and that of authentic desire and passion.  Between the classroom volunteers, those who supported Mrs. Best in the fitness gram, and everyone who joined the PTO meeting this past week, it is very clear you all are dedicated to our mission and enhancing every child’s learning experience.  We can’t thank you enough for all you do for RMAE!

For all of you who rose to the challenge last week of sharing the passion and excitement of being a part of the RMAE community – thank you.  Let’s continue this effort so it becomes a habit.  With all the stress and negativity we are faced with each day, it is refreshing and invigorating to know there are also good things happening around us.  Sometimes, we just need to take a moment and share.  Fortunately, you don’t need to look too far to find something positive to talk about, it’s here at RMAE.  Let’s keep the conversation going!

Your Proud Principal,

Ann Hudson

RMAE HAPPENINGS

RMAE’s New Website
– We are pleased to announce that we will be rolling over to a new website platform next Monday.   It will have a fresh new look but more importantly it will now be ADA compliant which means people with disabilities will have equal access to our website through specialized screen readers.  We have been working towards insuring the new site will be updated and accurate, however, it is a work in-progress so your patience is appreciated.  CHECK IT OUT next Monday at the same web address:  RMAE.org

Teacher Webpages – All teacher’s webpages will be migrating over to the same platform as our website within the next three months to insure they are ADA compliant as well.  For now, 1st, 6th, 7th and 8th grade teachers will have links to their webpages from our website.  These links will be found under the Classroom tab or the Student Resources tab on our new website.  The KG, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teacher webpages need to be built from the ground up and may take a little longer to be up and running.  In the meantime these teachers will be communicating with you via email.

Picture Day – is scheduled for next Thursday, September 14th.  All students in attendance will be photographed individually.  Approximately two weeks later, a proof will be sent home with your student that will include information on how to view their picture(s) as well as how to place your order online.  All orders placed will ship directly to the student’s home.  Students must be in dress code attire but please avoid wearing green.

Go Math Logo   Math Night - Our GoMath! Parent Academy will be held on September 19th at 6:00 in the cafeteria.  GoMath! is the math program we have adopted this year and we are hosting a parent information night September 19th to dig further into the rationale behind this program and how it can support all of our students.  The speakers are from Parker Core Knowledge, a very successful Charter School who also use GoMath!  They will be sharing how it has enhanced their math program, how to navigate the parent resources, as well as a Q&A.

Teacher Spotlight - Ian Dunbar - I am your Technology Teacher and I strive to provide your children with genuine opportunities to explore, create, work together, and learn from their mistakes. This year, I get to teach all of the RMAE student body!  While this might be a bit much for some, I love that I have this amazing opportunity to not only teach, but also get to know every student on campus.

Ian Dunbar

Despite the fact that I am the Tech Teacher at RMAE, most of my time away from school can be found outside and as far away from a computer as possible. My wife and I chose to live in Evergreen because of how quickly we could be hiking, riding single track, or more likely, wading knee deep in cold running water casting dry flies to trout. If I am not hiking, biking or fishing, I can be found in the dusty confines of my woodshop where I build furniture.

If you have any questions about how your student is doing in Tech, or how you might be able to help with various Tech projects around the school, please email me at [email protected].

Learning Experience Highlight - The 7th graders will be working on a multiple month long project centered on 3D printing. They will work together as a class to design, prototype, and build a massive 4ft by 12ft 3D printed maze. Our 8th grade will also be working on a lengthy project that will span till the end of 3rd quarter. They will be learning to build and program robots with our Lego Robotics kits. As a kid, Mr. Dunbar wanted his job to be to ‘play with Legos’.  Words cannot express how excited he is to share this experience with our 8th graders!

Elective of the Week – Nature Appreciation - In nature appreciation, we take the time to slow down and smell the flowers. While we do walk around outdoors, this elective is for students who enjoy being outside but don't necessarily want to be active. We read and write poetry, sketch the outdoors, meditate, and observe our surroundings. All of this while also learning about conservation and how to be kind to our earth.

Hey Fouth Graders!  See America’s natural wonders and historic sites for free!

WEEKLY HEALTH TIP - By: Mrs. Best/P.E. Teacher - Colorado Proud School Meal Day is on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. This is a day to celebrate Colorado agriculture and to educate schoolchildren about healthy eating. In order to encourage eating habits that will promote a lifetime of optimal health, it is essential to teach children about the importance of eating foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and low-fat dairy. Proper nutrition is critical if our educational programs and our students are going to continue to excel.

Health Tip #2 - In honor of Colorado Proud School Meal Day, make an effort to buy fruits and vegetables that are grown in Colorado. Most grocery stores have a section of produce labeled as “Colorado grown.”

This Week’s Goals -

  1. Eat a dark-green, red, or orange “Colorado grown” vegetable at dinner.
  2. Enjoy a “Colorado grown” fruit for dessert in place of a high sugar dessert at dinner.
  3. Visit a local farm: upickfarmlocator.com
    • Ya Ya Farm and Orchard in Longmont, Co.
    • Palombo Farms Market in Henderson, Co.
    • Heinie’s Market & Fresh Farm Produce in Wheat Ridge, Co.
    • Berry Patch Farms in Brighton, Co.

Last Year’s Auction Winners - Top bidding at an RMAE (Rocky Mountain Academy of Evergreen) Silent Auction won Kelli Anderson and her daughter (Grace) lunch and a ride through Evergreen in a 67 Chevy with Dr. Stueven!  Heads were turning and waitresses were asking for rides!
