Remote Learning-

Remote Learning Newsletters:

2/26/2021

Good Afternoon Remote Learning Families!

Please read through the following remote learning updates/reminders:

Zoom: Next week Mrs. Scheid will zoom in her classroom.

Charlotte’s Web: We will begin reading one of our Core Knowledge stories, “Charlotte’s Web” next week. Please have your child read 1 chapter per day (Monday-Thursday), listen to the recording of the chapter, or read the chapter to your child. Then follow the directions for the activity related to each chapter. You will find a PDF version of the story along with all of the assignment materials under the new Topic in Google Classroom titled “Charlotte’s Web.”

More Information Regarding Patriotic Program: Please let us know as soon as possible if your child is planning on returning to in-person learning on the next re-entry date so we can plan the speaking parts accordingly. Otherwise we will share the list of songs for your child to learn at home if they would like to. Unfortunately because the majority of the program will be songs learned during music class, logistically the remote learners will not be able to participate this year. Thank you for your understanding.

Spelling Tests: Spelling Tests will need to be uploaded to Google Classroom under the “Fundations” Topic. You can read the spelling words to your child, have your child log in live for the test, or watch the recorded version at a later time. Please allow your child to complete the test on their own.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Urdahl and Ms. Scheid

Good Afternoon Remote Learning Families,

Remote Learning Plan
Attached you will find the Week 21 Remote Learning Plan. Please note, the Swivl will be in Mrs. Scheid's room for the next two weeks so times on the remote learning plan will be different than they were this week.
❤Valentine's Craft Supplies ❤
It is hard to believe, but Valentine's Day is already just around the corner! For our Valentine's Party we are going to be doing lots of fun crafts and activities. But, this will require you to have some supplies at home.
Some of the things that your student will need in order to participate in these activities are: toilet paper rolls, beads, and pipe cleaners.
Optional: Valentine's Day Box
If students would like to exchange Valentines with the rest of the class you can drop their decorated box and valentines off at the office early and we will fill it up! That way you can pick it up at a later date.  If you are going to do this please have your box and valentines dropped off by the morning of February 12th.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns! Have a fabulous weekend.
Sincerely,
Ms. Urdahl and Mrs. Scheid

Dear Remote Learning Families,

We hope you had a great week!  Please take a moment to read through the Remote Learning Announcements below:

Zoom: Next week the Swivl system/Zoom will be with Ms. Urdahl.  Please pay attention to the times on the Remote Learning Plan since they are different than Mrs. Scheid’s Schedule.

Wit & Wisdom:  You will see that some of the Wit & Wisdom assignment directions are posted on Google Classroom (GC) instead of In Sync next week because our online learners are a little bit ahead of our in-person learners.  The assignments posted on Google Classroom are extension activities related to the Module.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Mrs. Scheid and Ms. Urdahl

Good Afternoon Remote Learning families,

We hope you are all staying happy and healthy! Just a few updates this week.
Uniform Reminder:
Please remember that remote learners are still expected to wear their uniform when they log into Zoom.

Contacting Teachers:
When you have questions or concerns about anything related to Zoom meetings or daily lessons please contact the teacher who has the Swivl at that time. This will make communication between you and the teacher more seamless.
Ms. Urdahl's email[email protected]
Mrs. Scheid's email: [email protected]
Wit & Wisdom Assessments:
Going forward Wit & Wisdom Assessment pages will not be printed out and sent home.  They will be accessible on In-Sync along with all other Wit & Wisdom Assignments. Please just refer to the assessment page on the In-Sync platform and upload your completed assignment there.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.  Please stay healthy and have a great weekend!

Dear Remote Learning Families,

Happy Friday!  We hope you are all doing well and staying healthy!

Zoom Schedule: Next week the Swivl system will be back in Ms. Urdahl’s classroom with a different schedule.

In Sync: Students will watch the In Sync videos for Wit & Wisdom from now on instead of logging onto Zoom.  We hope you are finding the new platform to be better for the children at home and that you are able to navigate easily through the lessons.

Module 1 Books: Please return Module 1 Books next week when you pick up new materials.  If you would like to keep the Geodes (black and white stories) for a little bit longer, please let us know.

Geodes: We have included a section for Geodes (black and white books) on the Remote Learning Plan.  Your child should practice reading the story posted for that day.  The passage at the back of each story titled “More” is a 4th-5th grade reading level.  Have your child practice that part if you feel they are ready.  Otherwise you can read that section to them after they practice reading the story.  There is a new Topic in Google Classroom for you to upload answers to the journal entry questions.

As always, thank you for all you are doing at home!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Scheid and Ms. Urdahl

Prior to CogAT Testing:

If you have not done so already, you will need to download the app called, "Riverside Data Manager" on a device in order for your child to take the CogAT remotely.  You will also need to know your child's student number.  It is very important that your child takes this assessment completely independently.  You will need to log your child in at the same time the children are taking the assessment at school.  We will share the times on next week's Remote Learning Plan.

Week of 9/8

Dear Remote Learning Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful week. Happy Friday!

This newsletter will include some updates and information for the coming week.

Attachments:

Attached to this email you will find the Week 4- 2nd Grade Remote Learning Plan as well as Ms. Urdahl's Zoom Schedule. Please note that Wednesday's schedule has changed slightly due to the needs of our class. The new schedule swapped Wit & Wisdom for Fundations. Going forward, Wit & Wisdom will begin at 10:30 on Wednesdays and Fundations will begin at 1:40 on Wednesdays. All other days and times will stay the same.

MAPS Testing:

This week there will be no meeting for Fundations on Monday, September 14th. This is because in person students will be taking the MAPS assessment during this time. This also means that Wit & Wisdom will start about 30 minutes later on Monday, at 10:40.  Please note that based on the amount of time this assessment takes our class may be running a few minutes late to Wit & Wisdom or we may start a few minutes early.

Virtual Back To School Night:

We will be having a virtual Back to School night on Wednesday, September 23rd from 5:00- 5:30. This will be a time for parents to meet Ms. Urdahl and Mrs. Scheid, ask any questions that you may have, and get to know the expectations 2nd has in place for students.

Waiting Room on ZOOM:

This week Ms. Urdahl really struggled with the waiting room on Zoom. We are working on being able to disable the waiting room for our Zoom meetings. We have tried to change the settings but somehow the waiting room still keeps popping up.  We will update you as soon as we resolve this issue. Thank you for your patients.

Thank you again for being so patient with us as we continue to work out these kinks in our system. You are all amazing!

Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Urdahl and Mrs. Scheid

Week of 8/31/2020

Dear Remote Learning Families,

Happy Friday!

This newsletter will include some updates and information for the coming week.

A New Face and New Times:
For the next two weeks the recorded lessons will come from Ms. Urdahl's classroom. This means that the Zoom schedule that you will follow will be different from the schedule this week. Please remember, due to COVID guidelines we have to follow our schedule times for each subject will vary throughout the week.  Please see the Week 3- 2nd Grade Remote Learning Plan as well as Ms. Urdahl's Zoom Schedule for details. Times for each subject are included in both places.

Materials:

Today we handed out hard copies of all books that will be included in Wit & Wisdom Module 1. Based on feedback we received we know that it will be easier for students to follow along with the text, if they have it in front of them. That being said, if you did not pick up materials today, you can pick up these books on Tuesday during school hours.

THANK YOU:
Thank you so much for being patient with us as we learn to navigate all the new technology and challenges we are facing this year. We are continuing to take your feedback into consideration as the weeks go on to help us improve this process as much as possible.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Have a great long weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Urdahl and Mrs. Scheid

Week of 8/24/2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thank you so much for your patience while we work through some bumps with zoom! We have been busy troubleshooting and hoping for a smooth week next week! Mrs. Scheid will have the Swivl in her class again next week then we will move it over to Ms. Urdahl’s classroom. Our plan is to switch off every two weeks. Please refer to the Remote Learning Plan for assignments for the week and the Zoom Schedule for times. As always, reach out with questions and we will do our best to find an answer!

Thank you for your support and understanding!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Scheid and Ms. Urdahl

First Week of School

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are so excited to get to know you and your children! Students will get the opportunity to receive lessons from both second grade teachers, Mrs. Scheid and Ms. Urdahl, throughout the Remote Learning Process. For the first week, students will receive classes via Zoom from Mrs. Scheid.

Google Classroom:
Please see the Remote Learning Plan for your child’s assignments for Week 1 beginning August 24th. This is a snapshot of the week. You will receive a Remote Learning Plan every Friday for the following week. Assignments will be posted in Google Classroom and this is where you will upload all completed work. All assignments for the week will be due the following Monday at 8:00 AM. For example, all assignments for Week 1 are due Monday, August 31st at 8:00 AM. For directions on how to access Google Classroom, please see the attached document. Each child’s teacher will give feedback on assignments through Google Classroom. Please make sure to share the feedback with your child.

Zoom Schedule:
Please see the Zoom Schedule to find out when your child can log into live lessons. You also have the option of watching the recorded zoom lesson at a later time. However, students will not be able to interact directly with the rest of their classmates if you watch the video later. Recorded zoom lessons will be uploaded within 24 hours of teaching them. You will see that the times are not consistent throughout the week or between classes due to Specials scheduling and new COVID guidelines.

The First Week:

We will begin our deep dive into our curriculum during Week 2. This first week we will focus on
helping students feel connected with their classmates, setting expectations, and getting back into the swing of school after such a long summer.

Please reach out to either of us by email with any questions or concerns. We are looking forward to a great year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Scheid and Ms. Urdahl
